How does the citizenship exam simulator work?
The simulator copies the official IRCC citizenship test: 20 multiple-choice and true/false questions, a 45-minute countdown and a 75% pass mark (15 out of 20). It is free to take — the free version draws from our sample question pool, and Pro unlocks the full bank of 1,400+ questions.
- The timer starts when you press Begin Exam and keeps running, just like the real test.
- Move back and forth between questions and change answers before you submit.
- Before you submit, you see how many questions are still unanswered.
- If time runs out, your exam is submitted automatically with the answers you have.
- You then get your score and can review every question with the correct answer.
How should I pace myself on the 45-minute test?
45 minutes for 20 questions gives you 2 minutes and 15 seconds per question. Most questions take far less once you know the material, so the clock is rarely the problem — knowing the answers is. Use the simulator to find out which topics slow you down, then study those chapters before you try again.
- Read every answer option before choosing — many wrong options are close to the right one.
- If you are unsure, pick your best answer and move on; you can come back to it before submitting.
- Leave a few minutes at the end to check any question you were unsure about.
When am I ready for the real citizenship test?
A good sign is passing the simulator several times in a row with fresh questions, not the same test repeated. If you are not there yet, take untimed practice tests, study your weakest topics chapter by chapter, and read our guide onhow to pass the citizenship test. Once you pass the real test, the final step is the Oath of Citizenship at your ceremony.
